Quote for the day:

"Better hope deferred than none. Up to a point. Till the heart starts to sicken. Company too up to a point. Better a sick heart than none. Till it starts to break."

- Samuel Beckett, Company

In the news:

The International Monetary Fund cut its forecast for global growth this year to 3.7% and said "there's a 25 percent chance of a world recession, citing the worst financial crisis in the U.S. since the Great Depression." A world recession is defined as global growth of 3% or less.

Ben Bernanke, speaking before a congressional committee, said he believes the economy is still "slightly growing at the moment." But he believes it is possible that the economy could shrink over the first half of this year.
