The International Monetary Fund cut its forecast for global growth this year to 3.7% and said "there's a 25 percent chance of a world recession, citing the worst financial crisis in the U.S. since the Great Depression." A world recession is defined as global growth of 3% or less.
Ben Bernanke, speaking before a congressional committee, said he believes the economy is still "slightly growing at the moment." But he believes it is possible that the economy could shrink over the first half of this year.
