The trade deficit narrowed 6.9% in December to $58.8 billion. For all of 2007, the U.S. trade deficit narrowed 6.2% to $711.6 billion from 2006's record $758.5 billion. This was the first decrease in the annual trade gap since 2001 and the biggest percentage decline in 16 years.
Initial Unemployment claims dropped for a second consecutive week to 348,000, down 9,000 from the prior week's level of 357,000. The four-week moving average increased 12,000 to reach 347,250, the highest level since October 2005. Sphere: Related Content
