Quote for the day:

"The bank is something more than men, I tell you. It's the monster. Men made it, but they can't control it."

- John Steinbeck, The Grapes of Wrath

In the news:

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac may raise as much as $20 Billion as part of an agreement that allows them to buy more debt securities. The two companies now have 76% market share which is about double their market share in 2006.

"Nominal incomes rose 0.5% in February, driven largely by the timing of government transfer payments and large bonuses to some workers." "Real consumer spending has risen less than 0.1% seasonally adjusted since November." "Inflation moderated in February, with consumer prices rising just 0.1% for the month. In the past year, consumer prices are up 3.4%, while core prices are up 2%, within the Federal Reserve's target implicit zone."
